Vince Shutte Bear Sanctuary

The Vince Shutte Bear Sanctuary is located about 13 miles outside of Orr, MN. Many years ago Vince Shutte killed many bears on his property. Later he realized that the bears were just hungry, not trying to cause damage, so he started feeding them. Now the American Bear Sanctuary feeds the black bears and thousands of visitors come each summer to watch. Although the DNR isn't real happy about it, one must admit that it is intriguing to watch the bears in their natural habitat. Visitors are bussed from the parking lot directly to an observation platform, so it is all very safe. We saw about 40 or 50 bears the evening that we were there. $5 for adults; kids are free. Definitely worth a visit.
