MN State Parks Series: Upper Sioux Agency


Location: Southwest Minnesota

Visited: June, 2005

Impressions: We stayed in one of two teepees that are located at this state park. It was a fun experience to sleep in a teepee, but be warned: the wooden floors are hard. We brought an air mattress, which made for good sleeping, but it sure did take away from the "authentic" feel. Upper Souix Agency is out in the middle of a prairie, with little tree cover and absolutely no shade near the teepees. It was 96 degrees when we were there and with no place to swim, it was HOT! One night was plenty for us. The fireflies and full moon were beautiful over the prairie grass though.
