Other Sanneses on the Net

Seeing Robert Sannes post on the visitor page this morning inspired me to create a page devoted to the other Sanneses on the web. I'll add to this list as I collect more links.

Amy Sannes. US Speedskating athelete and Olympian Amy Sannes.

Inger Sannes. Inger Sannes is a professional sculptor.

Robert Sannes Photography. Robert Sannes lives in Norway and has an extensive art photography site including landscapes, wildlife, architecture, and the human form.

Sannes Bed & Breakfast. This Swedish B&B is apparently named after the owner's daughter, Sanne Övermark.

Sannes, population 169. I was quite surprised to discover that there is a small town in Provence, France bearing the name Sannes. Perhaps we Sanneses have French ancestry as well as Scandinavian?

Maybe we should all meet in Sannes, France sometime! If there's no hotel, maybe one of the 169 locals would be willing to put up a bunch of Sanneses for a week.

La commune de Sannes is situated 30 km north to Aix-en-Provence and 70 km east to Avignon in Provence. Here you will find Le chateau de Sannes (a big and reputable wine-producer)which up to our time (1950-60)was owned by Baron Sannes and his wife. They are both dead. What will more interest you is the name Sannes. Are we in family? Sorry to say (I have been there to find out). It has nothing to do with "Sannes" in Norway or other part of the world. It comes from latin "Accus" which means landowner, this changed to Sannia in 1155, later Sanes (1500-1600 century)and at last Sannes in the XVIII- century. The chauteau still produce good wine, but now under the name "Domaine La Méage". By the way, Baron De Sannes didn't have any children. Therefore the chateau some 20 years ago was taken over by todays owner Frederic Chave.
